| Ashburton Town Hall - The Building |
Ashburton Town Hall
was built in 1850 by Lord Clinton to replace the 300
year old original wooden market hall. (a fantastic scale
model of which can be found at Ashburton
museum).
These days the town hall houses the Town Clerk's office, council meeting rooms and two large function rooms (booking details for these facilities are detailed in the left hand column of this page). |

Mr John Germon John is in charge of everything from the administration of the town council to the sorting out of a broken bench. He is the first point of contact for a lot of town issues. The Clerk's office is always very busy as the residents make good use of the service provided by Ashburton Town Council. See below for the Office opening times and contact details for members of the public.
Aside from his official role of Town Clerk and having grown up in Ashburton he is well known by all who live there and come Carnival time he can be seen getting involved with the festivities. He is also Chairman of the Ashburton Devon Dialect Club and you can catch him on BBC Radio Devon bringing the old Devon Dialect to the masses, If you have trouble understanding anything he says why not read his 'An
A-Z of Devon Dialect' on the BBC website.
Mrs Jasmine Rivers
"I moved away from Devon in my early twenties and went to college in Hampshire.
I had a wonderful job as a PA and conference co-ordinator in a five star hotel
and only left to raise a family. After twenty years of being all things to
everybody, I finally found I had time on my hands and decided that I wanted
to move back to Devon where all my close family live.
I am finding that working with John at the Town Council is both absorbing,
interesting and busy! It is the ideal job for me as it allows me to go to
work and integrate with the local people although Devon is familiar to me,
Ashburton is somewhere I do not know. I knew it was the right place for me
on my first visit and everything has fallen into place since."
